Students like to ask question. However, sometime UTM officers are not able to answer some questions. I decided to compile all the questions. Please take note that my answer may not be accurate. All answer are based on my observation and experience. This article have no any direct or indirect connection/relationship with University Technology Malaysia (UTM) or International Business School (IBS).
1) UTM IBS have 2 campus. Which one is the main campus?
UTM main campus is located at Skudai, Johor. However, UTM IBS main campus is located at UTM KL campus. The reason is KL is a metropolitan city. KL campus take in more variety of local and international students. Students can exposed to broader culture and future business partners.
2) Where is UTM IBS building?
IBS only have its office or building in UTM KL campus. It is located at level 10, Menara Razak (Previously known as High End Education Tower). All IBS related administrative work will be done in KL campus.
IBS do not have its own building in JB campus. Thus, JB students will depend on coordinator
3) What are the differences between KL campus and JB campus

Since KL is the main campus, most of the subjects are offered in KL
campus

JB students need to arrange the time table well depend on each
semester time schedule. If you miss a subject in one semester, you are
required to wait for 2 semesters in JB or you can take class in KL campus

4) The age range of students?
The current trend is younger generation. For example, fresh graduate or graduate with 1 to 2 years working experiences. The number of students who are parents are high too.
5) The number of students per class?
Core subject class - 30 to 35 students, there are exception of 40 students depend on lecturer
Elective subject class - 20 - 25 students
6) I have no experience in management. Will I face issues when doing assignments?
Most of the students study MBA are from engineering or non business background. Most of the students start from zero to learn. Don't worry about the assignment.

Don't worry, class usually end early. There are intervals between classes. We are human beings not robots.
8) What are the challenges for MBA part timer?
- Time constraint on study
- Learn to balance the time between family, work and study
The best solution is own a car in JB. Another solution is carpool with students from same neighborhood
10) How to go to UTM KL campus(Public transport)?
You can take Kelana Jaya LRT till Ampang Park Station. Then take rapid KL bus( not sure the bus number, I usually just ask bus at Ampang park LRT to Jalan Semarak. If not request friends who pass by the LRT station to give a lift.
11) Attires for class?
This depend in lecturers. Some lecturers give us the freedom in attire. Some lecturers are very strict.
Formal attire are required for presentation session. However, I do agree with my strategic management lecturer. We are aiming to be CEO/boss or business executive in market. Why not dress yourselves smartly as business executives? Habit start from yourselves.
12) What are the IT gadgets needed for MBA?
- Smartphone - most of the students use whatsapp to discuss assignment
- Laptop - to do your assignments
- Printer (optional) - UTM JB have printer service too. UTM KL need to depend on the shop. Sometime, the shop do not open on weekend. Students are required to go out of the campus to print. One interesting fact. Sometime, there will be a person bring the printer in car. On the assignment submission date, he will help other to print too( at some price^^).
- Scanner (optional) - you can use smartphone to snap and convert to PDF too
- Extension power plug (optional) - certain class room has limited power points. It is good to bring extension power plug
13) What are the software needed for MBA?
UTM do provide certain licensed software for its students. Most of the software can be download from

14) Do we need to refer/use to UTM library?
Frankly speaking, I only went to UTM library 3 times. Twice for assignment discussion and once to activate my library card. Please utilize UTM library service. UTM library ranked number 68 in the world. Its website provides good system for us to search journal or anything. UTM librarians are quite friendly too.

15) Do MBA have thesis?
YES. UTM MBA students required to do their thesis in the final semester. We refer thesis as graduate project(GP). Graduate project is 6 credit hours. IBS GP do not involve VIVA. 16) Do UTM have lecturer evaluation system?

17) Starting from 1 January 2014, Johor's public sector will change rest day to Friday and Saturday. Will it impact part time class in KL and JB?
No formal announcement been made by UTM IBS at the mean time.
Confirmation from Johor Bahru Campus coordinator, all classes will be conducted on Saturday. It will be from 8am to 10pm. We are waiting for the class schedule too.

18) What is the grading / marking system of MBA?
Please refer to UTM grading system
19) During the study, I may not able to attend certain class due to unforeseen reasons. Is it fine?
Students are required to have 80% attendance. It is fine to miss a few lessons.
However, if you miss out on your presentation, please remember to pre-record a video on the presentation. This is to ensure you still get mark for that assignment.
Currently, only MRC1623 Presentation and Communication Skills required 100% attendance. If you fail to attend one class, it mean you are out of the subject. No excuse will be accepted.
20) Do I need to have first class honor in my degree study to apply MBA?
YES, it was written officially on the UTM IBS website.
NO, if you have more than 1 years working experience and degree CGPA > 2.00, you are eligible to enroll.
Frankly speaking, I found that students with great experience able to share and present better than fresh graduate. I really look up to classmate with more experience.
