Tips on References Techniques for Assignments/ Thesis

Plagiarism is an serious offense in academic world. Frankly speaking, "Copy and Paste" is not a good idea.  It is best to use references and citation in your tasks, assignment and graduate project. It seem that since 2013, IBS UTM encouraged students to submit Turnitin similarity report before submit assignments.

I just have a few tried with Turnitin. From a programmer perspective, the system is great. It can detect 3 words in same sentences or sentences or paragraph from any web sources. Any three words that is same will stated as similarity. The algorithm is wonderful.  While, from the perspective of MBA students, It can't differences references and citation. This really give me hard time to do it.

There are many tools for referencing.

• EndNote
• Qiqqa
• Microsoft  Office Word

And others more can be found online

I recommend Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word come with build in referencing tools. You can even find plug in for the references technique you need.

I am not doing advertisement for Microsoft Office. I just use the software and find it very convenient.Finally,  I recommend Microsoft Office 2010 and above. It come with APA fifth edition. It suit the university requirement. It is so much faster to do referencing neatly and correct format.
