After working as software engineer (Java) in software house for 2 years , I opted to study master degree. Currently working as in house programmer(.NET) in manufacturing line. I would like to write down my experience.
1) Please ensure all the mangers agree on task requirements before proceed.
All managers have different opinions on the report format. As a inexperience in house programmer, I just take in any managers's request. No, it is a bad move. One simple components have change request for 5 times. In the end, I request all the mangers to agree on one final request. Finally i can get the tasks done.
2) Programmer means fixed every electronic devices in the company.
Frankly speaking, I quite like it. I can "play" around with different servers, smartphones, printers and fax machine.
3) Independent
There is no other programmer or IT personnel to discuss with you. You are left with the internet Guru or search engine "god", GOOGLE. GOOGLE is the best tools for programming. Please remember to filter your searches too.
4) Due date controlled by programmer
No one understand the managers request than you, You got to do it from the scratch. Time is in your hand. However, never let the mangers wait too long, it will not be good for your reputation.
5) Exposure to different IT gadgets
Most of the colleague are not familiar with smartphone, computer or printers. It is very interesting to fix or repair different kind of gadgets. I enjoy playing with different smartphone with different operating system.
